Feedback of pitch

Horror film feedback
The feedback  we got to our horror film was good and I think it will helps us to get the best grade for our  opening.
We wanted to have two mothers in the film but we can’t use ourselves as we are to young but we don’t have any older women to star in our opening. So we have changed it to a teenager looking after  two children. The reason why I think this would be most scary and add to the effect is that two young children will be difficult to look after and a teenager isn’t really bothered with looking after them and is careless but as stuff starts to unfold will become less anti social. Which is a classic in horror films.
We also had feedback about the lighting in the forest if it is too dark. However I have watched a film called sinister and in that film it is extremely dark which helps with the atmosphere because you can’t see what’s around you building up tension.
Finally the last of the feedback was the costume of the children because we wanted to change the costume but was told that it wouldn’t work as the audience could get confused

Pitch our horror films

Horror film survey and Feed back

Feedback for my horror film and what people prefer more.

From these result I can see what the main age group is and therefore can generalise the results to see what is preferred.

From these results I see that the most popular plot for a horror film involves vampires, however the plot of my horror story doesn’t involve a vampire but perhaps could have some aspects of a vampire film like darkness and cloaks. The second most popular is ghost stories which can relate to my idea for my horror film as it is going to be chillingly creepy like ghost stories.

Other response-3
"The part where the dude comes out of nowhere and scares you"
"The direction"
"The ugly faces they have"
These result are good in helping me understand what I should use in my horror film, where the scary person comes out of nowhere and scares you is a good feedback because it makes people scream. I’m happy with these results because my horror film has the scary part and has an ugly face as we will put make up on the actor.

From the results a family house is more preferred, I believe this is, because it will be more scary as it is someone’s house making it more relatable and also like they are trapped, so maybe I could use the feeling of being trapped to get more effect with my horror film. I’m disappointed that Forest and Park received 0 counts because we were going to film in a park/forest. However can still get the same effect of a house if the setting is small and enclosed.

From these results I know that I will have to make my horror film extremely scary to get the audience to be affected as it is the most popular, I was also wanting to make my horror film this scary however may be difficult as it might seen as amateur

From these results I see that the victims of my horror film have to be very strong and dependant which is capable of achieving. Also having a killer in my film was most popular but an evil and dangerous killer which will make the film scarier, and this will be easy to achieve but instead of showing violence it can be done slyly, considering one of the favoured plots was ghost stories which are mysterious.
From these results I am happy because I was planning on filming in the evening as it is starting to get dark and if it is to dark you will not be able to see anything on the camera so midnight isn’t very suitable as its dangerous outside as well.

From these I can see that they prefer a man to be the victim which can slightly work because I am using a boy as the victim.

This is good because the main story of the horror film involves children.

Horror Film analysis

Sinister- i really liked sinisters trailer because its linked in to the popular conventions of horror films. Recently a lot more horror films are about paranormal or exorisms. The editing of the trailer is good because it tells you the story and makes it interesting and scary. The music add effect because its very creepy music and when something is about to happen it just cuts showing you something important is about to happen. there is a lot of zooming into people expressions when they are fighted which makes it more tense because you dont know whats happening around them. The film is has every dark lighting which adds to the dept of the film increasing its scary factor.

Paranormal activity 4-This is a good trailer because it tells you the story and it links to the previous paranormal activity. The editing is good because its clicks on and off like the security camera and the effect of the home filming is good because it makes it seem more realistic. it also has a lot of shadows and darkness which creates a sense of mystery and makes you think what is about to happen. It cuts a lot from different scenes to give a sense of all knowing.

Scream analysis

The clip of scream that I watched was very because of the tense atmosphere and the questions it leads you to think; is she going to survive? Is she going to die? This is a good example of a horror film because you’re so involved with the scene.

The sounds they used are effective because it creates a scary atmosphere. They have the music on low so that you can still hear the diagetic sounds. When something is about to happen the music gets louder in order to make the audience to jump and scream.

The way it is edited is good because it shows a high angle which shows that the victim is vulnerable and the killer is at a high angle showing he is over powering the victim.

Convention of horror films

Common Horror Film Plots
1.   Person is insane, and kills a lot of people because of it. The insanity is due to supernatural influence. The insane person does property damage instead of killing people.
2.   Asylums-people locked up in a mental hospital and person comes to find them because they have information they need to kno.

3.   Exorcism- where a person normally a girl is possessed and the movie is about trying to get the spirit out of her.

4.   Supernatural/ possessed- where people become possessed either at a sleep over playing with a ouija board.
5.   Demons- where demons come to stalker a certain family or person.

6.   Psychopath/serial killer-where person goes around killing loads of people because they find it fun.

7.   Abused children/adults- where abused children turn in to disturbed adults and start doing weird stuff.
8.   Zombies- zombie invasion and certain part of a country become infected.
9.   Creatures- creatures appear from no where mutated humans, experiment gone wrong start killing people etc

Green Screen training

Green screen

With green screen training i found out how to do green screen.
The reason why it is called green screen is because they use a special grey material which reflects light. They use a bright green light under the camera which shows on the film, they use a bright green because it is a colour that people are unlikely to wear because its so bright, but you can use other colours but when you edit the coloured back ground out it will also cut out the same colour e.g. red background could remove a red top.

  • You then film your scene.
  • transfere the scene on to the computer
  • import on to abobe film maker
  • go on effect controls
  • click video effects
  • click keying
  • click choma key
  • the adjust the similarity
You then get your wanted video or picture and upload on to the programme.
if it doesnt work then go in to photoshop and save to a JPEG file then try again
Your Green Screen film should then work.

Preliminary task feedback

Preliminary task
I worked in a group of three which consisted on Reme, Maria and myself. We had to do the task on anger. I think this task went well because it made sense and feedback from the task was very positive and no negative feedback.
The things that went well was the shots we had all shots which were included in the checklist which was; reverse shot, long shot, high angle show, over the shoulder and two shot. We also included another shot called the match on action shot which worked really well.  When filming the camera wasn’t shaky at all because we used the tripod however in some shots like over the shoulder shot we couldn’t use the tripod because of the height it had to be at so we used the camera free hand. The shots all linked together nicely and was easy to understand the concept also the effects used had more to the film because it makes it more interesting.
I used transitions to go in to different videos and used sounds to cover swearing words. I used a title at the front to make the video look more professional. For my main piece of coursework I think I need to have more shots and more effects to make it more interesting and entertaining. Also a better plan because it wasn’t that detailed and was rushed because it had to be redone as someone forgot the original but I think overall it turned out how it was meant to, but I think next time a better story line has to be created. When editing the film I found it easy because I just had to dragged the scenes into place, at the beginning cutting was difficult because I didn’t know what part I was cutting out or keeping but  as I carried on cutting pieces of film it became easier and I got use to it. I found the editing easy when I knew how to get most things and picking out to use was hard as well because it didn’t go well but eventually I got what I wanted.
When filming the actual scenes  we found it hard to keep serious so it had to keep being re done but we got there. I also think that in the film our positions aren’t really actuate but you can’t really see it in the film.
I think that in the future when filming I will have to keep more serious to get the scene done to the best of my ability. I think further challenging myself would be to have more lines to make it more understandable what is the theme of the film.
