A digipak is a book style
paperboard/card cover normally used for CD singles or special editions of CD
albums. It consists of 3 panels which open up like a book, they are different
to the jewel cases as they show damage faster.
Looking at a variety of
digipaks I found that all consisted of pictures (some of artist), they
trademark symbols and the lyrics (some came out in a leaflet). All these
aspects are done to advertise their work and to make it stand out. Other things
printed on the digipak were producers and companies.
When looking at the CD
covers I learnt that in order to make my digipak stand out I will have to pick
out some ideas from the examples. Such as the colours, many pictures were quite
atmospheric and colourful at the same time. I liked this as it will be fun to
play around with the brightness of the costumes etc. also the idea of having a
trademark symbol like the kings of Leon, interested me as well, as it would be
a stand out mark when advertising. However most of the covers didn’t included
the artists. Maybe this was because of the genre, as artist like Lily Allen had
pictures of herself. I would be more inclined
to go down the route of Lily Allen as her pictures are quite fun and quirky.
