In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? (Music videos)

Here are some screen shots of scenes from our music video that I believe portrays the main elements of the genre conventions. We set our music video in 3 different places; a road setting, a house and an area in Southbank.  The reason we did this is because we wanted it to be personal to us and for it too look like a realistic story. It looked realistic I believe because it was set outdoors and not in a set. Many other artists like Ellie Goulding and her video ‘Burn’ show an outdoor scene which adds more effect as the people in her video seem more free and real. The two top pictures are the main settings and I think they work well together, as in the first picture you can see it is a homely area and its quite peaceful. The second picture is in Southbank and you can tell by the background (the sculpture) that this is a place loads of people go, to show there has been a change in the tone as the relationship between characters has grown. The settings chosen does conform with the conventions of media products however as I said I think we developed more as it had a more personal touch.

In the third picture is a picture of the main costumes. The main character is wearing a blue skirt and blazer, this is too add quirkiness to the video and to show that this is the main character. This is done a lot in music videos, an example is Beyoncé ‘ Single ladies’ as it consists of three dancers, wearing similar outfits and colors however Beyoncé’s clothing is different (same color).  So using this convention to show the audience clearly who to focus on. The other dancers are wearing Black and white blazers and jeans. We choose this because it fitted nicely with the matching outfits. The boy is seen wearing casual clothes to contrast between the ‘eccentric’ clothing and normal clothing, to add comedic value ( picture 1). There is also a scene in the house where a used comedic part is used, with the woman not being able to find the right clothes so tries on nearly all her clothes to find the right one.  When in South Bank it changes a little to casual clothes, with bright pattern trousers.

The seventh picture is to show the genre, which is pop. I choose this picture because it shows the main clothing which is quite out going and the action of everyone jumping to show that it is quite upbeat and lively. Also the standard pop story line, romance with dance routines, similar to music videos Rihanna "whats my name?" with her out of the blue romance with another artist.

The main character in the eighth picture is presented as quite energetic and over excited. The dancers/friends come across to be good friends who stick by each other even through weird dance routines.  Also the boy is represented in the last picture to be uninterested. This was done on purpose and as the story goes on he becomes more interested.

We didn’t use much special effects only the flashing light effect on Photoshop.

Overall I really like the way our video has turned out and I think with these pictures it is very clear to see the story to our music video.
