Final music video

my final music video

I’m happy with how my music video has turned out as many seemed to have enjoyed it. I think adding more scenes of singing and dancing worked well. Also we re-filmed the night scenes, this looks much better as you can see what is happening now. We also added a new bit after they get dressed, where you can see they are moving to a different place, by jumping in to the next scene. I liked this bit as it flows well.  At the end we added a scene of them playing and dancing around, this was one long clip but we cut it to much it shorter and make it seem like it was different clips to speed it up so the viewer wouldn't get bored with the continuous scene.

Overall I think this project has been successful and I’m happy with the end result.

Plan for digipak and advert

when planning the digipak we analysed many other types of digipak. gathering a lot of different ideas which we could incorporate in to our own work.

Digipak

We choose to present our digipak in a certain way that all the sections would make sense when you open it. The first section we have chosen to add a girl giving a dirty look so it links up with the section with the boy and girls. We have chosen for our CD section to make the actual CD and back ground the same. We did this because it seem very different and when analysing other digipaks, we didn’t see anything like this only on one. The reason the background isn’t coloured in is because it is a white brick wall, but you can’t see the lines unfortunately. The front cover, which is the third section is a group picture of the dancers, we did this so everyone could be included and make it more personal.

Finally the back section, we drew a silhouette of a couple walking away, to show it all works out and what type of song this is.

With our advert we chose not to do much detail with the faces etc. As we liked how is looked without all the detail as it gave it a neater/cleaner look. However we had a problem, as we didn't know if we should draw the dancers with bodies as we like how it looked without them. The main colour is blue as it relates to the video as throughout everything is mainly blue. Similar to Annie Mac it is quite a simplistic style, however it could be considered that it doesn’t go with the 'quirkiness' of the video.

DIGIPAKS

DIGIPAKS

A digipak is a book style paperboard/card cover normally used for CD singles or special editions of CD albums. It consists of 3 panels which open up like a book, they are different to the jewel cases as they show damage faster.

Looking at a variety of digipaks I found that all consisted of pictures (some of artist), they trademark symbols and the lyrics (some came out in a leaflet). All these aspects are done to advertise their work and to make it stand out. Other things printed on the digipak were producers and companies.

When looking at the CD covers I learnt that in order to make my digipak stand out I will have to pick out some ideas from the examples. Such as the colours, many pictures were quite atmospheric and colourful at the same time. I liked this as it will be fun to play around with the brightness of the costumes etc. also the idea of having a trademark symbol like the kings of Leon, interested me as well, as it would be a stand out mark when advertising. However most of the covers didn’t included the artists. Maybe this was because of the genre, as artist like Lily Allen had pictures of herself.  I would be more inclined to go down the route of Lily Allen as her pictures are quite fun and quirky.

Feedback rough cut

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ix06jluDj68

What did I learn?
I learnt how to work well with my partner in order to create good pieces of work and to direct extras easily without shouting or causing arguments.
How costumes can affect the work and lighting can make it look so much better.

What went well?
The dance routine went well, there was a concern on how the dance would happen and if it would be choreographed but it all went to plan and we had a standard move, along with improvised dance moves.

What would we do differently next time?
If we could do it again, we would maybe plan out more of the outfits and make up in order to make it look a little neater.

Feedback
Overall it was good and the story line made sense.
Pleased with the dance routine as they thought it wouldn’t have worked.

Singing needs to be more in sync with the song.

Photos of locations

CENTRAL LONDON SETTING

The reason why we choose to set some of our music video here is to have a wider diversity in locations so it wasn't all the same and the audience would loss interest.  Also because central London is a stereotypical setting for love stories like 'Notting Hill' and 'Love Actually'.  Hopefully this setting will strength our concept because of what the audience relates to Central London with the London eye and big Ben.

White brick wall

We also choose a classic setting for the song as well, to draw attentions to  the main story and not what is happening out side of it. Also many pop videos have a plain background.

Music Video Prezi and Feed back

Feedback on pitch
The idea for the video is good and is realistic to do. Some concerns about dance routine with who will choreograph but sorted out as me and my partner will teach the dancers.
A problem with the matching outfits, concerns about money etc. but was sorted out because all the actors in it can use a simple block colour, a staple of a wardrobe.

Overall good feedback and I’m looking forward to filming and seeing if it meets expectations.

Target Audience and Feedback from survey

Target audience
1. What gender are they?
Female
Even though in our survey the majority were male, however even though it would suit a male audience as well as a female audience we have decided to stick targeting it to a female audience.

2. What types of music do they normally listen to?
Pop and R’n’b
Pop and R'N'B were had the highest results in the survey, showing us that they are very important genres in recent times.

3. What would they do on the weekends?
Going to concerts and out with friends
This answer would describe the target to be an outgoing person and bubbly which can go with our results from preferably lighting. The highest results was bright colours, related to their outgoing selves.

4. What breakfast cereal would they choose?
Chocolate sheddies

5. What TV programs do they watch?
Family guy, friends, new girl.

6. Their ideal partner?
Someone quirky like Stefan Abingdon

7. Restaurants would they go to?
Ed’s diner

8. Their favourite drink?
Fanta and K.A.

9. Mode of transport?
Bus, walking, bike
The results with where a pop video should be set was outside. This makes sense as our target audience sees to like going out in the open and being eco-friendly.

10. What sport do they do?

Dancing

FEED BACK FROM SURVEY

The highest favourite artist was Bruno Mars, this works well with our project because our artist is Bruno Mars.
Storyline videos was the highest chosen so we have decided to add a little stereotypical romantic story to it. Also the second highest was 'Dancing Routines' and we are going to do a dance routine in the song.
Casual clothes was the highest, so we have decided to have a couple of scene that have casual clothes in. The second highest was Matching outfits which we are going to have.
The results show that it is preferred for the main artist to be seen a lot so we have made it to go with this.

Justin Timberlake 'Mirrors' comment

The first time watching Justin Timberlake’s video for his song 'Mirrors' I was very confused as to what was happening. Over time the more I have seen it, the more it makes sense. I think the angles and the story line are done very cleverly and as you get use to the videos all the scenes link up together and makes sense to create an emotional response.  As they scenes going back to the past and then to the future of a couple. Which would make the audience feel like they know the couple in the video as they get to see their life. Also they would feel sadness as one of them dies after all that shown in the video. It gets the viewer involved as everyone falls in love at least once and everyone grows old and dies. So they can relate it to their life. Which is why it won the best music video of the year compared to all the rest because it can be seen as hard hitting emotionally. Also the lighting is dim so it makes it easier to watch as it makes it calmer. Similarly the editing has been well done as the clips become faster towards the end to show that it was ending. However at the end with Justin Timberlake performing in a room of mirrors with half dressed women, made you forget about the rest of the video as you were more confused to why he ruined the video with a cheesy dance routine and basically naked women with fizzy coloured wigs.
Overall I think he deserved to win the prize because it was the best compared to the videos of 2013 and it had a very strong impact.

Music Video Similarities

Bruno mars - Treasure
In this music video there is a lot of cut aways to different pieces in the actual scene, for example it will cut away to an arm or a face. Also when it cuts away it cuts to a very small section and then zooms out and I like this affect because it goes with the music. Also the theme of the video is a comedic 70s theme with matching red and leopard suits. With a lot of spot lights it really goes a long with the stereotypical way a 70s video was. It is just filmed in an indoor studio and has a very cheesy dance routine and a band.

John Newman- love me again
This music video is also  an old fashioned way with a 1980s feel of a community hall get together with a romance involved as well. Has a lot of slow motion to go with the song and the weird dances. Which makes the dancing seem more atmospheric. Also looks like a live performance. But with a twist at the end as the couple get hit by a van. Old fashioned like Bruno Mars' Treasure

Ellie Goulding – Burn
In the music video it isn’t the same with the old fashioned theme but a more modern theme of reckless teenagers and parties. Loads of cutaways and closes up of the singer singing and dancing, which sometimes looks performed or improvised.

Conor Maynard – R U Crazy

Has a band performance like Bruno mars. But had a lot of symbolism with his evil side having a black background etc. and his emotional side having a white theme. He is singing to the camera and there is a party. The story is him with a girl having a fight making up having a fight etc.

One influential music video-Michael Jackson, Smooth Criminal

The reason why I think this music video is so influential is mainly because it is one of Michael Jackson’s songs. Michael Jackson was considered the 'king of pop' and was extremely famous for the Jackson 5 and videos like the thriller.
Mainly Michael Jacksons earlier videos showed a story. However some don't but they still have a strong meaning to go with some serious topics for example "they don't really care about us"
Also Michael Jackson got this inspiration for this music video from a Fred Astaire comedy film called 'the bang wagon' the reason it reminds me of this is because of the 1930s looking night club and all the dancing. Also Beyoncé is seen in her 'Naughty girl' music video to be using the same theme.
Also another reason for this being as influential is because of Jacksons legendary dance moves showing the; moonwalk and the leaning dance move he does. Many artists today have copied Jackson’s style of dance e.g. Chris Brown, Usher, Ne-yo and Justin Bieber.
Also the lyrics and the video go together so it isn’t difficult to understand. A lot of music videos have now been set in clubs and have a lot of dancing in it and Michael Jackson could be the influence

Q7 looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

From my preliminary task I feel that the clip looked good and entertaining. When reading my feedback from my preliminary task I saw that I had said the camera was shaky as we had to do the over the shoulder shots with a freehand because of the height. I improved this on my main horror film as it wasn’t shaky unintentionally and the reason it was shaky was to add the tension and scary effect.  In both pieces of work I used transitions and titles so they are similar in this aspect and both had the same effect. However I feel that it worked better in the horror film because of the transitions e.g. over laying the words on the clips. This shows the film to be more professional as most films over lay the writing and titles on the clips. This had to be done as there was more things to be said during the opening of the horror film. So I have learnt that when you have a lot more to say that you should overlay it on top of the clips or create an opening sequence as the wait can be boring making the audience uninterested.
Also I have learnt how to improve the sound effects and dialogue. “I think further challenging myself would be to have more lines to make it more understandable what is the theme of the film.”  I said this from the feedback of my preliminary task; I think we were able to do this as there was much more dialogue involved which made the theme more understandable. From my previous feedback I can see that I had trouble making the clips understandable which was a big problem with my first horror film as the lighting was to dark and was messy and difficult to understand. However the second horror film clip improved as we had better lighting and more scenes to make it clearer. So from my preliminary task to my recent horror film the lighting in both had been the same.  In the preliminary task we had no soundtrack and only one sound effect which was a bleep. In my horror film however we used more sound to create tension which I think worked well and improved it massively. So I have learnt that sound makes the work more interesting and adds good effects.
The amount of camera angles and transitions we used are about the same. We used a range of shot types which I think made the clip a strong piece of work and we did the same In the preliminary task and horror film. As we were in a park it was more difficult to get certain angles because of how open planned it was unlike in school as there were doors, buildings etc. which transitions we only used one in the prelim task and more in the horror film. In both clips we used effects to smooth the cut from clip to clip. However in the horror film we used effects like ‘ghosting’ in order to get the creepy effect which wasn’t needed in the preliminary task.
Overall I think I have learnt a lot between the preliminary task and the horror film, and my experience from the prelim made my horror film better.  As my horror films had things added which my preliminary didn’t.
